Get ready for a surprising twist! Claude Makelele, the legendary Premier League icon, is stepping into a whole new world as a Miss Universe adjudicator. But wait, there's more to this story than meets the eye.
Makelele, a former Chelsea star, is no stranger to spotting talent. With his keen eye, he's now taking on a unique role, judging beauty and grace.
"Life is about embracing new experiences," Makelele shared with the Daily Star. "When presented with this opportunity, I couldn't resist. After all, we owe our existence to ladies, and we cherish the beauty they bring to our lives."
And what a first experience it will be! Makelele will travel to Thailand to judge the Miss Universe contest on November 21. But here's where it gets controversial...
In a recent event, a Thai official caused a stir by berating Miss Mexico in front of her peers for not promoting the contest. This led to Miss Mexico walking out, joined by several other contestants in support. Makelele might find himself in a delicate situation upon arrival.
Known for his defensive midfield prowess, Makelele's journey has taken him from Chelsea to Real Madrid and beyond. He's represented some of Europe's biggest clubs, including Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain, and Nantes. With 71 caps for France, he even reached the 2006 World Cup final.
After his playing career, Makelele ventured into management, coaching French and Belgian clubs, and even assisting Paul Clement at Swansea. However, his most recent stint with Greek club Asteras Tripolis ended abruptly due to board interference.
Despite this setback, Makelele remains determined to return to management. "I have a gift for recognizing young talent," he told SunSport. "Young players need understanding and guidance, and I'm committed to giving them that. I'll be back in the dugout soon."
So, as Makelele prepares for his Miss Universe adjudication, we can't help but wonder: What other surprises does this former midfielder have in store for us? And this is the part most people miss... Makelele's journey showcases the diverse paths athletes can take post-retirement.
