Does Call2Recycle accept wet cell or automotive batteries? ›

What types of batteries can I recycle? We currently collect and recycle rechargeable and single-use batteries weighing less than 11 lbs. (5 kg) and cellphones. We do not accept wet-cell or car batteries.

Store your container of batteries in a cool, dry place. Room temperature is fine, but avoid direct sunlight or extreme heat. Incidents can occur when batteries (or the devices they power) are exposed to inclement or excessively hot weather.

Disposing of Alkaline Batteries

Most places don't accept single-use alkaline batteries for recycling. You can't take single-use batteries to Call2Recycle drop-off sites at The Home Depot. In most places, you can put alkaline batteries, such as AA, AAA and D batteries, in the trash.

The Home Depot Store has partnered with Call2Recycle, a nonprofit battery recycling program. Rechargeable batteries can be dropped off in Call2Recycle bins at the store. Any rechargeable battery that weighs up to 11 pounds and is under 300 watt hours is accepted.

Usually, the lifespan of a dry car battery is around one and a half to two years only. You need to be alert about the purchase date so that you don't forget to replace your car battery.

These cells carry a fixed amount of reacting chemicals in them. The chemicals in the dry cells get used over time and the reaction is irreversible. Therefore, dry cells are non-rechargeable batteries.

Elevated temperature hastens permanent capacity loss. Depending on battery type, lithium-ion is also sensitive to charge levels.

Batteries eventually leaking or corroding is a relatively common occurrence, especially familiar with alkaline AA cells if they're left unattended for long enough. In short, the reason alkaline batteries leak is that they're continually self-discharging in tiny increments, even when not in use.
